ECHOCARDIOGRAM

ECHOCARDIOGRAM INFORMATION

An Echocardiogram is a specialist type of Ultrasound which uses high frequency soundwaves to generate images which specifically demonstrate the structure and function of the heart.

Like Ultrasound, Echocardiography is a safe and non-invasive medical imaging technique.

ALL ECHOCARDIOGRAMS REQUIRE AN APPOINTMENT.

ALL OUR SERVICES ARE BULK BILLED FOR ALL MEDICARE CARD HOLDERS

PATIENT PREPARATION

Echocardiograms require no preparation prior to the procedure.

After the Echocardiogram you will be able to resume your normal activites.

ON THE DAY OF YOUR ECHOCARDIOGRAM

We are proud to say our appointments run to schedule and on time. It is therefore important for you to arrive on time and adequately prepared for your examination. If you are late or unprepared for your scan it may have to be rebooked for another day.

You should wear comfortable clothing and you may be required to remove some jewellery prior to your examination. When you arrive on the day of the Echocardiogram our staff may ask you to change into a gown. In order to assess the function of your heart, our staff will also apply ECG dots to your body during the test. These dots will stick to your chest like a band-aid and allow our staff to monitor the function of your heart.

An Echocardiogram scan itself is generally easy, fast and painless. You will be required to lie flat on the table for several minutes, which can be uncomfortable for some patients. During the examination the Sonographer may give you instructions to help improve the scan.

Most Echocardiograms take about 40 minutes but some may take up to 1 hour.

After the Echocardiogram you will be able to resume your normal activities.
